For India’s biggest, most iconic sports property of the year, Star Sports and BCCI have launched an interesting campaign that pits raw feisty youth against solid experience, and sweetly delivers the promise of the VIVO IPL 2019  — it will be yet another cricket contest between young, rough-around-the-edges players and the experienced stalwarts, with no quarters given. After all, game banayega name – no posturing or preening, it will only be the quality of the cricket, the ‘game’ and talent of the player, that will make all the difference.

The #GameBanayegaName film is conceptualized by Taproot Dentsu, and has been released simultaneously in 7 languages – Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Bengali and Marathi across all platforms, TV, Radio, and Digital.

This is a film we’ve already watched several times, and each time, it leaves behind a smile and anticipation. For an ad film, that’s a job well done and dusted

The film opens with a split-screen battle between young players in a maidan on one side and established VIVO IPL stars on the other, vying to grab screen space.

In a historic first, IPL players from across all eight franchises have come together in one frame to showcase the spirit of the upcoming league. The  TVC has cricket scene stoppers like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, R Ashwin, Jaydev Unadkat, Rishabh Pant and Rashid Khan — each in his team jersey. Even so, equally captivating are the spirited, feisty young unknown scene-stealer lads who, in the film, bend their backs to a contest with the stars, and represent the new or unknown players this VIVO IPL.

Dhoni’s initially menacing swagger morphing into a good natured smile… for instance, is one such moment. Ultimately, the manner in which the stars smilingly reach out to the eager unknown youngsters, is an especially heartwarming takeaway, and then, the final ‘gauntlet’ that Virat smilingly hurls at them, saying, to the effect, ‘don’t tell me your name, show me your game’, signals that both, the unknowns and the superstars, are ready for the VIVO IPL 2019 with a total ‘Bring it on!’ attitude.

Great stuff.

The lyrics and the music complement the narrative – in fact, the film achieves a rare combination where every important element — the storyboard, stars, actors, edit, lyrics and the song – in equal measure take the narrative forward. The catchy song is written by Puneet Sharma and Pallavi Chakravarti, and composed by Sameer Uddin.

This is a film we’ve already watched several times, and each time, it leaves behind a smile and anticipation.

For an ad film, that’s a job well done and dusted.
