INOX puts India on world cinema exhibition map with launch of INOX Megaplex The world’s first multiplex with maximum formats and experiences

IMAGE-inox-LAUNCHES MEGAPLEX IN MUMBAI MEDIABRIEF

In a major milestone for business of Indian cinema, INOX Leisure Ltd has given India the world’s largest assortment of cinema formats in one great confluence of exquisite Luxury, Service and Technology, when it launched the INOX Megaplex at Inorbit Mall, Malad.

INOX Megaplex is the world’s first multiplex with maximum movie exhibition formats and experiences. With a total of 6 experiential formats and 11 screens casting 60 shows a day, the glittering INOX Megaplex is now India’s best confluence of Luxury, Service and Technology in movie exhibition. The glittering megaplex is a world of its own with the capacity to host an audience of 6000 individuals each day across a total of 1586 seats in the various halls.

INOX Leisure is already present in over 68 cities with 598 screens casting 3000 shows each day to more than 70 millions a year in 140,000 seats. “From 598 screens to 1000 should take around four to five years,” said INOX Director Siddharth Jain. Perhaps even earlier, one feels, considering INOX Leisure had added a whopping 85 screens last year alone. And as Alok Tandon, CEO – INOX Leisure Ltd, said, “We should launch our 600th screen in a matter of a week or so, depending upon which two properties amongst more that are ready receive the license first.”

Ultimately, it is on the back of the deeply satisfying concept of all-round-experiential-cinema-watching that INOX Leisure Ltd seems to have pegged its growth plans, and going by the quality and appeal of INOX Megaplex, justifiably so.

INOX Megaplex is a momentous leap, not only in the Indian cinema’s rich landscape, but even in the global context. As the multiplex

business:

First, a bit about INOX’s view of experiential cinema-watching. INOX Megaplex is seeking to evolve cinema-watching on the back of the best experience-driven format that encompasses watching movies in the best technical formats that present each film to best levels of the specific format, and also provide movie lovers and their friends and families a delightful, varied F&B opportunity and experience with in-movie dining from a rich and varied collection of especially curated menus from cuisines with more than 250 dish options. This coupled with the spectacular space and premises of superb grandeur complete the whole process. And for as long as good movies keep coming as has happened so far this year, INOX will succeed in its intention, which, as Siddharth Jain said, is “to ‘de-couch’ the content consumers from their OTT platform watching spaces to a new experiential dimension which we believe is the future of cinema.”

INOX Megaplex: A boost for the creative eco-system of Indian cinema

The INOX Megaplex also augurs brilliantly well for the future of Indian Cinema in terms of formats. While a narrow business view might dictate most exhibitors to go in for the safer screens that play films produced in only the most common formats, INOX has gone in and brought India its first multi-projection ScreenX format. And the MX4D, which has actually seen the Hrithik-Tiger Shroff 300-crore-hit War converted into the MD4D format that takes movie watching into the physically experiential domain. Formats like these would get Indian cinema to produce and factor in such formats at the concept stage, and will heighten the movie going experience in a way no OTT platform or smart telelvision at home ever could.

The launch of Megaplex at Mumbai is an extremely important and strategic business milestone for us as it paves the way for more such large-format experience destinations. As a cornerstone of our ‘experience’ strategy, Megaplex would strengthen our bond with our patrons, while offering them grand and global formats, tantalizing dining opinions and above all, happy memories: Alok Tandon

Six Experiential formats at INOX Megaplex

The six experiential formats are: ScreenX, Kiddles, MX4D, IMAX, Samsung Onyx Diner and INSIGNIA, each with its own unique features.

ScreenX is the world’s first multi-projection technology, offering a 270-degree panoramic viewing experience, with projection on three walls of the auditorium. There are only two such unique screens is in India; both with INOX Leisure Ltd, with the second launched in Kolkata recently.

Kiddles is a format designed specifically to cater kids with bright pastel colour designs, fun wall decors and a lobby where they can have gatherings and celebrations to rejoice. With a seat capacity of 80, Kiddles also offers booking space opportunities for parties, celebrations meant for family and children.

IMAX, known for its overall immersive nature, boasts of a huge 32-feet-high screen with a 40% larger image, heart-pounding audio, highest-quality 3D, a dual projection system and remarkably striking interiors. INOX is the only chain to have two IMAX screens in Mumbai.

Samsung Onyx Diner is a one-of-a-kind cinema-viewing experience where the focus is to allow the film viewers to not only watch the content in the sharpest quality, but also in ambient light, because the screen is actually like a massive LED Television screen, viewable in ambient light, and therefore allowing the audience to dine in while watching the film and also appreciating the colour and visual appeal of the food – very unlike eating in the dark without being able to see the food and fearful of accidentally feeding your nose or chin. The World’s first cinema-LED technology, the Samsung Onyx LED,  offers ten times brighter visuals embellished with JBL’s surround sound.

MX4D, a format incorporated recently, also offers the  most advanced immersive environment where viewers physically feel the action happening on the screen from the 14 built-in motions and effects programmed in the seats and theatre walls. The effects are synced/programmed at the post-production stage on to the exhibition master of the film, and the viewer feels tight little blasts of air on their face when a bullet flies by on-screen. That’s just one of the 14 built-in effects and motions — yes, motions, because the seats to tilt and sway and bump and lurch with the action. Delightful.

INSIGNIA is INOX Leisure’s flagship luxury cinema-watching format. With Italian-leather upholstered recliners, a butler on call, Dolby ATMOS, Laser projection and an exceptional dining catalogue serviced by a Live kitchen and food curated by celebrity chef Vicky Ratnani, INSIGNIA breaks barriers and exemplifies the luxury cinema format.

INOX Megaplex: 5 expansive lobbies

With 5 expansive lobbies, INOX Megaplex is an architectural delight that embraces the contemporary Art Déco. A destination for innovative F&B concepts, Megaplex offers a variety of cuisines curated by Masterchef Vicky Ratnani. As Siddharth Jain said, “The idea behind the wholistic experience at INOX Megaplex is to make it as a tourist destination – one of the top ten things to do in Mumbai.” Shouldn’t be too difficult to get this on all the colourful little city guide pamphlets at all the five, four and three star hotels in Mumbai.
