Critically acclaimed movie ‘Bhonsle’, co-produced by Golden Ratio Films, a Film Production and Distribution arm of the renowned Singapore-based Media Investment entity, Vistas Media Capital (VMC) has won big at Asian Film Festival, Barcelona. The movie directed by Devashish Makhija, which stars Padma Shri awardee Manoj Bajpayee in the lead has won two awards in the ‘Best Screenplay’ and ‘Best Director’ categories at the prestigious film festival. It is co-produced by Manoj Bajpayee Productions, Promodome Motion Pictures, and Saurabh Gupta.
The film narrates the story of Bhonsle, a police constable played by Bajpayee, who tries to fight the struggles of migrants and their battles with the local politicians. The film addresses concerns of various ethnic groups in society and highlights the issues that they face in order to survive in a city like Mumbai, away from their homeland. The film strongly portrays the reality of migrant politics and the challenges that come along.
Abhayanand Singh, the CEO of Golden Ratio Films was elated by the success of the film and said: “Bhonsle has been an extremely successful project and winning not one but two awards at the Asian Film Festival, Barcelona gives me immense pleasure. With a remarkable storyline presented by Devashish, the film has touched upon the much-needed socio-political issues and has helped in propagating the message of unity and acceptance. This couldn’t have been possible, were it not for the immensely talented team of writers who worked on this project”
Devashish Makhija, Director said: “To not only be recognized as an Asian film but to be awarded as one is an honour. The migrant issue explored in Bhonsle is one that is relevant to all of Asia if not the world. And it is a matter of hope and joy that this story of outsiders resonated this way. Any award a film like this wins is an award to the courageous team that collectively made the film.”
Speaking on the film’s win, one of the writers, Mirat Trivedi, said “A big thank you to the Asian Film Fest de Barcelona for this honour. ‘There are no heroes or villains, only victims of circumstance,’ was a theme we seeked to explore in ‘Bhonsle’. At a politically fragile time in our world’s history, this film was a challenge to make. Many champions arrived to make our intent a reality. For this intent to be recognized by a festival we love (we were there last year with ‘Ajji’) is a victory for our entire team.”
‘Bhonsle’ has had an amazing festival run since the Busan International Film Festival. With sensitive cinematography, the film builds the curiosity well as it goes along. It was premiered in the ‘A Window on Asian Cinema’ section of the 2018 Busan International Film Festival.
