Brands join hands to promote handmade masks wotj #ApnaDeshApnaMask

Apna Mask Initiative, a pan India initiative by StartUpVsCOVID, a Startup community with over 1000 members has come together to support the Government of India to fight COVID.

ApnaDeshApnaMask is a non-profit movement promoting homemade masks and aims to drive behavioural change to ensure that 1.3 billion wear a mask and stay protected as they step out of their homes. 

In a span of less two weeks, ApnaDeshApnaMask’s message to create and wear simple home-made masks has gone viral, garnering 100 millionoutreach across digital platforms including WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

ApnaMask has been focussed on building awareness and educating people about the importance of wearing homemade masks. The movement started with the Start-up community pioneering the initiative and they were soon joined by celebrities and influencers. The #ApnaDeshApnaMask campaign was kicked off by stalwarts in the Startup industry – Rajan Anandan of Sequoia India, Vijay Shekhar Sharma of Paytm, Alok Mittal of Indifi, Vishal Gondal of GoQii, Jasminder Singh Gulati of Nowfloats along with others taking a pledge to make and wear a homemade mask when they step out of their homes. They were joined by Vidya Balan, Dia Mirza, Juhi Chawla , Divya Khosla Kumar , Juhi Parmar and Deepshika Deshmukh, Sonu Sood, Shama Sikander, Preetika Rao and many others in this significant campaign.

Taking the leap forward, ApnaMask team has also reached out to various organisations to support this important initiative especially as parts of the country get ready to come out of the lockdown. Urban Company, MakemyTrip, Dunzo, HealthifyMe, Zomato, Redbus, Ixigo, MoneyTap, MyUpchaar, Bounce, RazorPay, Medanta, WittyFeed, LBB, Porter, Meesho, Daily Hunt, 1mg, Paytm Games have changed their social media handles while some are changing the App icons as well. Today some of these brands will be nominating each other and inviting more companies to join the #ApnaDeshApnaMask movement. 

“Given the immense response we have received, we will have more brands join #ApnaMask in this critical initiative. We believe some of these steps will be helpful in building habit changing behaviour towards wearing homemade masks”, said Poonam Kaul, Co-Founder, ApnaMask.

#ApnaDeshApnaMask supports the Government’s mission to spread awareness around the importance of wearing a Homemade mask and maintaining hygiene. The campaign will help build awareness and educate 1.3 billion people to adopt the trend of making masks at home and wearing them, every time they step outside. This is a very critical ask from Govt to ensure that people do not start hoarding masks that are reserved for healthcare workers.
